PROPOSAL TO REDUCE MINERS' HOURS “A REVENGE MEASURE” ! British Official "Wireless Reed. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Monday. Mr. Ben Turner, Secretary for Mines, speaking at Sheffield during the weekend, announced that as soon as Parliament reopened steps would be taken to reduce the working hours of the miners. He said Parliament would be tested on the matter, and none with any humanity could support a continuance of the eight hours measure. Mr. Turner declared that this measure, which had been passed in revenge by the Conservative Government, had had no successful results in its operation, and it was time it went.
