GLOAMINGS ABOUT \ PPARENTLY there are a few -*■ *- Gloamings running in the South Island, if one may judge from the cramped totalisator dividends paid at Ashburton on Saturday. Dutch Money (a winner) and Desert Song (second) were at odds-on, and £1 on each horse would have shown a loss of about half a dollar. Chide was at odds-on too in the principal handicap, and the return given by the brilliant Pink Coat in the sprint was short. Incidentally, the fact that Pink # Coat spreadeagled his opponents in the sprint will not be welcome news to owners of horses engaged in the Great Northern Guineas at Ellerslie on Saturday week.
