The encouragement of the use of native-grown trees in industry was stressed in a motion by the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, who moved that it be an instruction to the Industries and Commerce Committee to inquire into the difficulties which affected the marketing of New Zealand fruit cases made from New Zealand native timbers, and generally to inquire into the reasons for the preference now accorded to fruitcases made from imported timber, and to report to the House as to the best means of ensuring the use of local timbers in the future. Mr. Coates suggested that the moshould be made to apply to |*New Zealand-grown timbers. This ■was agreed to.
