Rep. Soccer Match
AUCKLAND VERSUS NAVY Bluejackets’ Final Appearance A SPECIALLY attractive Soccer programme -will be staged at Blandford Park tomorrow when the Auckland repi-e----sentatives will play a return match with the New Zealand Naval Division, and as most of the representatives of the ratings are leaving for England on Sunday week it will bo their last appearance here. The curtain-raiser will be the Falcon Cup knockout with North Shore and Bon Accord. Both teams met last week when a draw resulted after extra time, so another exciting game should result tomorrow.
There are several changes in the Auckland team. selected by Mr. Xeeshum to meet the Navy tomorrow, from that which last represented the province in the F.A. Trophy match against Wellington. D. Jones, Gerrard, Reid and Dunsmore are engaged in the Falcon Cup curtain-raiser, and Tinkler has been off the scene for two weeks with an injury. The team selected, however, should be capable of maintaining Auckland’s unbroken record, but the sailors are keen on avenging the defeat on King's Birthdav. and would like to sail away on October 1 with Auckland’s scalp tailing in the wake of the paying-off pennant. Batty’s place in goal tomorrow will bo filled by Zuill (Onehunga), who is one of the soundest goalies and always a difficult custodian to pass. Mowat at right back has been playing a great game for Y.M. and is easily the most improved player of the season. This is his first rep. cap and his form in the big game will be watched with interest. Simpson is no stranger to rep. honours at fullback and is sure to be a tough hurdle for Navy’s right wing to clear. Christie will fill his old position as the pivot at centre-half, but will have new partners on either side of him with Jock Morrison (Ponsonby) at righthalf, and Mooney (Celtic) at left. The forward line is exceptionally strong, the only change from that which met Navy before, and defeated Wellington later, being Bell (Trams) for Dunsmore. and the naval defenders will have a busy
