OPOTIKI DENTAL CLINIC

SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL Some time ago it was decided to endeavour to raise funds for the purpose of establishing a dental clinic at Opotiki. It was decided that the campaign should take the form of a queen carnival. Two qpeens were chosen: Town and Country. Eleanor Murray was chosen as the Country representative and Violet Moody as the Town representative. The sum required to be raised was £l5O, which with the usual Government subsidy of £2 for £1 made a total of £450. The campaign concluded on Saturday night and resulted in a win for the Town Queen by 296 votes. The final results were:—Town Queen, 9,270 votes: Country Queen, 8.974 votes. The total amount raised during the campaign was £228, resulting in a surplus of £7B. The crowning of the queen is not expected to take place until next month, and this should result in further money being raised.
