CALLIOPE DOCK
ENLARGEMENT SCHEME ALLOCATION OF COST A committee of three was appointed by the Harbour Board yesterday to confer with a Government committee about the contribution to be made by the board toward the cost of enlarging the Calliope Dock. HPHE chairman, Mr. M. H. Wynyard, moved that a committee be appointed consisting of himself, the chairman of the Finance Committee, Mr. T. B. Clay, and Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, former chairman of the board, to confer with the Government committee and report to the board-in-committee. Mr. E. Aldridge immediately asked that he be added, as the matter affected his district, but Mr. Mackenzie remarked that Mr. Aldridge was the Government nominee and not the representative of Devonport. If anyone else were appointed Mr. A. E. Greenslade should be. The chairman said it was not advisable to have too large a committee because it would probably have to travel to Wellington to confer with the Government. In seconding, Mr. F. A. Hellaby hoped no parochial feeling would be allowed to intrude. The motion was carried.
