NGATEA TENNIS
CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING (From Our Oxen Correspondent) NGATEA, Today. j A satisfactory season was x'cuorted j at the annual meeting of the Ngatea ! Tennis Club (Inc.) last Monday even- | ing, the standard of play and the membership having shown an improve- j ment. Reference was made in the j report to the fact that the Tennis As- j sociation had not yet presented the J ; trophies for its inter Club competitions j and for its tournaments, many of i which had been won by members of j the Ngatea Club. Financially, the past season had j been a good one except for the fact that repairs to the courts costing £73 had greatly exceeded the estimate, i Great improvements had been made to the surroundings and another 40 young trees had been planted. The balance-sheet showed a turnover of £IOB 10s Sd, and that the assets totalling £044 6s 4d were mortgaged to £458 ss. It was decided to discontinue the weekly dances, as they were not paying. As a means of raising funds a series of club tournaments was arranged. Certain economies in entertainment were adopted and it was decided that future improvements be done by voluntary labour. It was decided to protest to the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association at the non-presentation of the trophies won at the association's tournament and interclub competitions, and to ask for authority to obtain possession of the Laidlaw Cup, won by the club’s senior grade team. Opposition was expressed to the zone system of playing the interclub competitions and the delegates to the association were instructed to advocate that each club meet every other i club. Officers elected were as follow: Patron, Mr. B. Coppins, sen.; president, Mr. H. 23. Sparrow; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. 11. Dent and It. B. Paul; secretary, Mr. A. E. Ludlow; treasurer, Mr. It. C.
