CHALLENGES TO WINNER
ALLEY AND JOHANSSEN WANT SINGH WELLINGTON’S NEXT BOUT Before the commencement of the main event last evening, Walter Johanssen challenged the winner and Tom Alley also stated that he was prepared to meet the winner whenever tho New Zealand Wrestling Association saw fit to stage the match. Jack Sorenson, the American heavy-weight, who was originally matched to meet George Walker, British heavy-weight champion, at the Town Hall on September 25, was also introduced. As Walker will not arrive in Auckland until shortly before that date and would therefore not be in the best of condition, the bout has been cancelled and in its place Naranjan Singh will wrestle Johanssen. The next match at Wellington will be between Clarence Ecklund, who is to wrestle “Farmer” Vance in Auckland on October 1 for the light-heavy-weight championship of the world, and Tom Alley. The bout will take place next Monday evening and tho fans in the Southern city should see a great display.
