EXCELLENT TRACKS
FOR AVONDALE TRIALS WORK ON SUBURBAN COURSE The tracks at the Avondale course were in excellent order this morning, and a few interesting gallops were witnessed. The outside of the course proper was available, the trestles being 75 feet out, so horses were asked to gallop about SO feet from the rails. The first to work were Singleton and Alerry* Alason. The former, who figures in the Avondale Cup, looks a ball of muscle. The pair went half a mile, Singleton, under a pull all the way. finishing a length in front in 54 2-5. The Gisborne representative went particularly well. The Autumn two-year-old Running Over sprinted two furlongs up the straight, the second furlong in 12 4-5. and Set Fair, another Autumn youngster from the same stable, was given the same work, returning 27 3-5. Both hit out well. Alaori Boy" and Owairaka were both doing it nicely at the end of five furlongs, from practically* a standing start, running the journey in a smart 1.6 2-5. the last half-mile being left behind in 50. Promising Youngsters The Avondale Stakes candidates, Oil King and Trickle, performed smartly in a half-mile spin, the former going very freely* at the finish. They passed the post on terms in 53, the last three furlongs taking 38 4-5. Vanessa, who is also in the Avondale Stakes, was accompanied by Gold Lily* over half a mile, the two-year-old pleasing most in 52 4-5. the final three being cut out in 38 2-5. Vanessa is very* forward, while the maiden candidate also showed some speed. A big bay gelding. Bob Amans, a likely looking sort, was going better than his companion at the end of an easy" five furlongs in 1.9. Smart Six Furlongs Crimestor beat Ruffles over six furlongs in the smart time of 1.20 1-5. They got over the first two in 26 2-5, and the three in 40 2-5, the last halfmile occupying 53 4-5. It was an attractive gallop. Crimestor hitting out very* freely, giving evidence that he has gone on the right way since he was last raced, at Pukekohe in Alay*. Ruffles was not unduly hurried, and could have done better. He, too, is very well. A number of others were restricted to easy* tasks. among them being Tahoma. White Fang and Historic. Tahoma, who claims an engagement in the Avondale Guineas, is a very* shapely filly, and it is claimed for her that she has a ton of speed. She certainly lodks as if she will be able to go fast. She is a half-sister by Hunting Son to Koodoo, and is to take her place in the Avondale Guineas next Monday*. The trials at Ellerslie this morning r.re reported on the late news page of this issue.
