MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT
LECTURES FOR OFFICIALS Attended by between 40 and 50 officials and members of practically every local body in Auckland and the general public, a scries of 38 lectures on municipal problems, given by Professor H. A, Beishaw, professor of economics at the Auckland University College, has just concluded. The course embraced problems and methods of municipal government and principles and methods of local body finance. Reviewing the results in a report to the college council yesterday, Professor Beishaw said that on the suggestion of the class provision was made for open discussion and this was carried on on a high plane. He intended discussing plans with a committee appointed by the class for next year. On the basis of experience gained bv the experimental lectures, it was proposed to divide the work next year into a series of lectures and a series of discussions. It was also hoped to form a small group of 20 or 30 students, members of -which would prepare papers for discussion.
The professor added that the college council and the Auckland City Council had every reason for satisfaction at the interest manifested in the subjects discussed.
