BURSTING OF HOT-WATER PIPE

The death of Mr. Cyril Hobbs, a young man employed by the Public Works Department as a fireman, occurred at the Auckland Hospital last evening as the result of severe burns received through the bursting of a hot-water pipe. The accident occurred last Tuesday, when Mr. Hobbs was working on an engine on the Westfield deviation. A steam pipe burst in the locomotive cab, and he became enveloped in a cloud of steam, which severely scalded his chest, back, and head. He was conveyed to the Auckland Hospital In a very serious condition. Mr. Hobbs was single, his parents living at the Taws. Flat rai’way deviation works near Wellington.
