ELECTRIC KNIFE

WELL-KNOWN IN N.Z. IN USE FOR TWO YEARS Press Association : CHRISTCHURCH, Today. “We have been using. it continuously for two years,” said Dr. Fenwick, radiologist, at the Christchurch Hospital, to the Hospital Board when questioned about the electric knife, the description of which was cabled from Fremantle yesterday. The apparatus was invented by Dr. Wyeth, oQ the Vanderbilt Clinic, U.S.A., whose ■ personal recommendation determined Dr. Fenwick to adopt it. This w-a’s made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Hobday, of Bealey Avenue. The Christchurch Hospital thus was the first in New Zealand and one of the first in the world to use the electric knife. Its peculiarly valuable feature is that when an incision is made not a drop of blood is lost. There is very little shock and facial features can be altered without leaving a trace of the knife.
