R.N.V.R. DANCE

Bright Function at St. Mary’s Bay MANY OFFICERS PRESENT The fourth monthly dance conducted by the Auckland division of the New Zealand Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve was held in the divisional headquarters at St. Mary’s Bay on Thursday evening, by kind permission of the commanding officer. Officers present included the officer commanding the Auckland division, Commander F. A. Hull, R.N.V.R., Lieutenant-Commanders L. Alderton, R.N.V.R., R. P. Nisbet, L.S.C., R.N.V.R., C. V. Connelly, R.N.V.R., Paymaster-Lieutenant J. C. Hewsop. R.N.V.R., Lieutenant E. C. Alexander, R.N.V.R., Sub-Lieutenants Taylor, Garner, Sutton, Fraser and Bridson, R.N.V.R., and Paymaster-Sub -Lieutenant Hilliard. Chief-Petty-Officer Watson, R.N., acted as M.C., and Mrs. Watson took charge of the supper arrangements. Among those present were: Mrs. Watson, wearing black silk and lace; Miss Pauline Hunter (London), in nigger brown charmeuse, with orange velvet trimming; Mrs. Charles Tarr Palmer, ■who wore eau de nil, apple green; Mrs. Nisbet, in a frock of floral georgette; Mrs. Deoracombe, wearing heavily beaded shaded georgette; Miss Mayn (Sydney), in mauve georgette, with, uneven hem: Miss M. Wallahs, in shaded orange chiffon, velvet. Miss M. Britten, who wore pink crepe de chine and silver trimmings; Miss A. de Marr, in a frock of black ring velvet and lace; Miss D. Logan, in apricot ring velvet, with gold trimmings; Miss C. Gardiner, wearing sea green georgette over silver lace; Miss M. Oates, in old rose crepe de chine, with shawl to tone; Miss T. Wilson, wearing pink georgette, with blue silk shawl; Miss E. Gwillim, who wore rose shot taffeta, ankle-length, frilled wdth posy and tulle to tone. Miss I. Gwillim, wearing rose taffeta, ankle-length, with posy and tulle to tone; Miss Lil Hopkins, in deep blue crepe de chine; Miss M. Coulam, in a frock of rose velvet; Miss C. Clifton, wearing palest pink taffeta, wdth tulle skirt; Miss B. McGregor, who wore lemon georgette and green velvet; Miss Williams, wearing palest pink and blue georgette, wiih floral trimmings; Miss F. White, in a frock of daffodil satin, wdth uneven hem and silver tissue bridge coat; Miss Cyril MacPherson, wearing peach georgette chiffon, velvet bridge coat. Miss Borpie Parkes, who wore mauye and gold brocade taffeta, wdth shawl to tone; Miss Florence Earle, in white satin and ostrich feather trimmings; Miss Majore Bass, wearing apricot georgette, with beads; Miss Betty Endean, wearing floral georgette; Miss Rene Larkins, in a frock of black crepe de chine, with georgette skirt; Miss Olive Milburn, in jade green chiffon velvet; Miss L. Hesketh, wearing shell pink georgette.

CARD PARTY YACHT CLUB BOATHOUSE FUNDS BENEFIT Mr. and Mrs. Allison, of Rawhitiroa Road, gave a delightful card party on Monday last at their residence to augment the funds of the Tamaki Boathouse Committee. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas ably assisted them in caring for the copifort of their guests and a very enjoyable evening was spent in playing bridge and five hundred. Mrs. Eady and Mr. Levien won the prizes at bridge and Mrs. Rabone and Mr. Williams at SQO. Consolation prizes were awarded to'Mesdames Basil Clark and Noonan, and Messrs. Parker and J. Pearson. A competition for a cake given by Mrs. Reid resulted in Mrs. Clark being the winner. Mrs. Allison received her guests in a frock of sunglow pink crepe de chine, with evening wrap of same tone. Mrs. Nicholas wore rose pink broche silk. Mr. Madill. on behalf of the ladies’ committee, thanked the givers of the evening for their generous hospitality and help for the funds and called for cheers, which were given wdth hearty good will. Among those present were: —Mesdames Ansene, Madill, Barnes, Levien, Clark, Sweeney, Marshall-White, Bradbury, Greenhough, Koefoed, Moore, Noonan, Rabone, Reid, Williams, Watkins, Walmsley, Curtis, Verrale, Heath and Silk, and Misses Walsh, Cooke, Clark and Silk.

ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY The annual fancy dress dance held by the members of the Otahuhu branch of St. Andrew’s Society, in St. Andrew’s Hall, Otahuhu, on Thursday evening, was a very successful and enjoyable function. Mr. McKechnie fulfilled the duties of master of ceremonies. A very enjoyable programme of dance numbers was provided by Messrs. Greenlees, Kirk and L. Lee. Miss Riddell played a couple of extras. A novelty competition was won by Miss Joyce Wilson and Mr. F. Gardiner. The prizes for the best fancy costumes were as follows—Most original costume, women, Miss White, as Grandma; men, Mr. J. Gardiner, as Al Jolson; best fancy dress, women, Miss E. Ryburn, as an Early Victorian Lady; men, Mr. F. Gardiner, as a Baker.
