PRIMARY SCHOOLS

REMITS FOR COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION

Interesting remits covering administration are to be considered by the Auckland Primary Schools’ Committees’ Association on Wednesday evening next. The Mauku committee recommends that any child requiring immediate dental treatment, and whose parents were prepared to take the child to the dental clinic, should be treated irrespective of the rotation of schools. That conditions of conveyance of children to technical school are ridiculous, is the opinion of the Mount Roskill committee. It is pointed out that the department does not simply pay the fare over and above three miles, but the whole cost of the greater distance, but nothing in regard to a lesser distance. The committee recommends that the association should endeavour to have the existing anomaly rectified and endeavour to have the prescribed distance reduced to 1J miles.

Urging the necessity of safeguarding school children from vehicular traffic, the Brixton Road committee suggests that definite crossings should be marked in white across main thoroughfares to indicate to children suitable places to cross. The Remuera committee, after experiencing the smooth working of the Nelson system of Bible instruction, urges committees to consider investigating this system with a view to introduction to their schools. A remit from the New Lynn committee suggests that the movement to obtain free school requisites from the Government be supported. A further remit from the Mount Roskill committee recommends that probationary assistants, being teachers still in training, should not be considered part of the ordinary school staff.
