HUNTLY MEDICAL CLUB

HOSPITAL BOARD APPROVES SCHEME FREE HOME TREATMENT (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. The proposal to establish a medical club at Huntly was approved by the Waikato Hospital Board at its meeting today. Under the scheme, free medicine will be supplied to members, who will also receive free treatment in their homes. Maternity cases will he dealt with at a special fee of £2 2s. As a further concession, members will get hospital treatment at half the usual fees. A resident doctor will be stationed at the Huntly Hospital. The club proposes to commence with a membership of 500, at an annual subscription of £l. This sum will be handed to the board, with an additional £1 for every accident case admitted to hospital. The club also undertakes to hand over any surplus funds. The membership is expected to be 1,000 before long. A deputation representing the Huntly Hospital Association waited on the board and promised to consider the scheme.

An additional operating theatre to cost £650 and more accommodation for infectious diseases in the present isolation ward, to cost £3,500, are on the board’s building programme. The board decided not to appoint a delegate to the Social Welfare League, recently formed in Hamilton to appoint a court missioner at a salary of £3OO. The opinion was expressed that the operations of the league were outside the board's concern.
