BOTH KNOCKED OUT
UNUSUAL END TO BOXING BOUT INCIDENT AT WHANGAREI (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. The unusual spectacle of two boxers being knocked out at the same time was witnessed in a special lightweight contest at the Military Boxing Club’s tournament here on Tuesday evening. Such incidents have been recorded in the history of the boxing ring, but they have been few and far between. The contestants in this bout were Howie, 9st 31b, and Chappell, list 91Jj. Crouching low, Howie connected with, a hard straight left to the solar plexus and followed it up with a right uppercut. The first blow made Chappell lurch forward and as he did so he took the following blow low, and dropped to the canvas. Howie tripped over him and falling down knocked himself out by coming into contact with Chappell’s knee. The spectators were thus treated to the unusual sight of two boxers out at the same time. Not having seen the foul the referee commenced counting Chappell out, but he was informed that there had been a foul. As there was no doubt that the blow was foul, although accidental, the decision was awarded to Chappell. MILITARY TOURNAMENT From, Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Wednesday.
