Fighting in Manchuria fL'lifted P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian end N.X. Press Association) Received 9.30 a.m. SHANGHAI. Tuesday. THE worst fighting since the commencement of the SinoRussian rupture is reported to be proceeding 100 miles south of Harbarovsk.
Already it has lasted two days and nights. Confirmation is belated; but all reports agree that Soviet bomb-ing-planes were extremely active and inflicted heavy damage. A railway station was demolished at Pogranichnaya. There are strong local rumours that the Russian aggression is the outcome of the alleged persecution of Soviet internees in Manchuria. Suifonho reports the complete destruction of the railway station by
Soviet bombers, the severance of communications, and demolition e£ a stationary armoured train. Twenty soldiers were killed. The inhabitants are fleeing in panic. Numerous smaller stations were bombed. The Chinese border defence force is holding all the positions. The Russian Foreign Office has again peremptorily demanded that the Governments of Nanking and Mukden shall dissolve the divisions of "White Guards in Manchuria immediately.
