Three Men Leap to Death TWELVE OTHERS MISSING Believed Trapped in Cabins (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and A’.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Received 9.15 a.m. ROTTERDAM, Monday. JUMPING overboard from the blazing British oil-tanker Vimeira, three men of the crew were drowned. Twelve others are missing. They are believed to have been trapped in the cabins. The heat prevented the fire-floats from approaching.
the Vimeira was lying in dock, with a considerable amount of benzine (Dating about her. Suddenly this was ignited, presumably by a match thrown from a passing vessel. Flames rushed up the vessel’s sides, exploding the foremost tank. Five charred bodies were recovered. The Vimeira. a steamer fitted for oil fttei, is of 5,728 tons, and is owned by the Vimeira Steamship Company, Limited (Gow, Harrison and Company, managers). She was built in 1927 by R. Duncan and Company, Limited, at Port Glasgow. Glasgow is her port of registry.
