NEW BY-LAWS
PROPOSAL AT MT. EDEN WIDENING MAIN ROAD New by-laws on the lines of those framed recently by the Auckland Transport Board to control traffic, were suggested at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. The traffic inspector, Mr. H. Bransgrove, reported that many of the present by-laws need revising. lie suggested that these should, as far as •possible, be brought into line with those in force in the city to avoid confusion. The question was left in the hands of the Finance and Legal Committee. Four months’ leave of absence was granted Cr. K. McK. Morison, who is at present in Taranaki. The Auckland City Council has agreed to contribute £6,250 toward the of a combined system of drainage. An offer of 100 trees from Mr. Beady v.-as accepted, and the trees are to be planted on the mountain.
A demonstration of laying bitumen is to be given in Marsden Avenue by Messrs. Brown and Ingram on September 18, when representatives of all boroughs are expected to be present. The system is similar to that used in AVollington. The typo of bitumen is that used on CO per cent, of the Californian roads. A tender for a short section of sewer in Dominion Hoad was let to James Williamson, the amount, £225, being slightly below the engineer’s estimate. Thirty-two property owners in Bominion Road, between Kensington Avenue and Landscape Road have objected to giving land to a depth of seven feet for widening. The engineer considers all will agree to a transfer if compensation is allowed. Spoil for widening the road will be taken from excavations in connection with the tramway extension work now proceeding at the terminus.
