“FLATTENED OUT”
THIEF OBJECTED TO BEING QUESTIONED
“Why he has only just come out of gaol,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when Thoralf Oswald George Knudson appeared at the Police Court this morning on a charge of theft. “He has 46 previous convictions, too. 1 think he ought to go back for six months.”
Knudson, a Norwegian labourer, aged 48, was charged with stealing clothing valued at £2 6s belonging to Alfred Fowler. He pleaded guilty to stealing one shirt, which Sub-Inspec-tor McCarthy said he had taken while the owner was at church. As far as the other clothing was concerned, the owner had taken it from accused and given him a hiding. “Another man who questioned Knudson about the shirt was flattened out with a blow on the ear,” added the sub-inspector. Sentence of six months’ imprisonment was imposed.
