NO CAUSE FOR ALARM

DISEASES AMONG CATTLE IN WAIKATO DIRECTOR’S INVESTIGATIONS (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. Reports of widespread diseases among dairy cattle in the Waikato are somewhat exaggerated, according to Colonel J. Lyons, director of tlie live stock division of the Agricultural Department, who is now investigating in the district. He said he had travelled extensively during the last few days, and could find no evidence that the mortality rate was anything as large as reported. No doubt in one or two individual herds a few deaths had been recorded, and in one instance seven animals had died in a herd of GO.

The causes of death were various, but departmental officers were concentrating on the prevention of eclampsia and septic metritis.
