FIRST WEEK’S VOTING

BIRKENHEAD CARNIVAL The first week’s voting in the Birkenhead Queen Carnival to raise funds for a fire brigade has placed the Friendly Society’s Queen in the lead with 2,160 votes. Other figures are: Business Queen, 1,992; Birkdale, 1,446; and Labour, nil. It has been arranged that, as payments are made, the relative positions of the queens will be shown by flags on the council chambers. Donations of four bags of sugar, one for the committee of each queen, have been received from the Colonial Sugar Company, and Cr. Jackson Kerruish has presented £ 1 Is for the best suggestions, with brief reasons, for a new name for Birkenhead.
