“GIVE US YOUR ORDERS”

MR. THOMAS MAKES APPEAL TO CANADIANS TO EASE UNEMPLOYMENT (Australian and 'N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) WINNIPEG, Wednesday. Mr. J. H. Thomas, British Lord Privy Seal and Minister in charge of Unemployment, today discussed with farm organisation officials at Winnipeg the questions of closer trade relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom, methods of alleviating unemployment in Britain, and plans for future immigration to this Dominion. Speaking to officers of the Canadian wheat pool, Mr. Thomas suggested the possibility of the pool extending its policy of purchasing machinery from Britain. Every effort should be made by Canadians to buy in British markets when articles could not be obtained in Canada. The discussions *a*ere frank and satisfactory. In the course of an address to the members of the Canadian Club, Mr. Thomas said he had no intention of solving the problem of unemployment in Britain by dumping a large number of people in Canada. He merely asked Canadians to give Britain a fair share of their business, so as to ease unemployment in Britain. Canadians only spent £1 with Britain for every £4 they spent in the United States. They imported 16,000,000 tons of American coal and he was going to secure some of that order for Britain, the customer of Canada.
