TWO SENIOR TEAMS?
EDEN CRICKET CLUB The annual general meeting of the Eden Cricket Club held last evening decided to instruct its delegates to the annual meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association, two teams of equal mission of two teams to the association’s senior A grade competition. The patron of the club, the Hon. Sir George Fowlds, K.8.E., presided. The suggestion was put forward by Mr. P. Shaw and supported by Mr. E. C. Beale and other members that the club at present was hardly likely to attract young and promising players. The senior eleven, which had held championship honours for three years in succession, was composed mostly of young players, and there was little encouragement for new recruits. With the permission of the Auckland Cricket Associatoin. two teams of equal strength could be entered for the senior competition. The club would not mind if it lost the championship as long as it gained its strength as a club, and it was emphasised that both teams would be well up to senior standard.
The election of officers resulted: Patron, Sir George Fowlds; vice-pat-rons, Sir James Gunson and Mr. J. M. Caughey; president, Mr. O. Nicholson: vice-presidents, last year’s re-elected, with the addition of Mr. A. L. Caughey: management committee, Messrs. E. C. Beale, P. Shaw, H. D. Gillespie, W. Brooke-Smith, A_ J. Postles, J. H. Holloway and F. McCarthy; hon. secretary, Mr. J. A. Bissett; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. F. Weir; hon. auditors. Mr. E. A. C. Auger and Mr. R. F. W. Whelan.
