TRAINING FOR SPORTS
SKI CLUB MEMBERS AT RUAPEHU ANNUAL MEETING HELD (Special to THE SUN) NATIONAL PARK, Today. The Ruapehu Ski Club's party at Chateau Tongariro, which includes a number of visitors as well as about 50 members, is preparing for the annual sports to be held on Thursday. Parties are practising ski-ing at Scoria Flat almost all day, and others are making long tramps. About 60 visitors at the Chateau began the climb up Ruapehu yesterday, but were forced to turn back through the mountain clouding over. At the annual meeting of the club held on Saturday, the chairman. Mr. A. D. Mead, spoke of the great loss suffered by the death of the late president, Mr. W. Salt. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. The proposal to erect a memorial to Mr. Salt was approved unanimously. No definite step was taken with regard to suggestions that the club should run trips other than that in August, and that a visit should be paid to the Southern snowfields. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. A. D. Mead (Auckland); vice-president, Mr. L. N. Scott (North Auckland); honorary secretary*. Mr. W. S. Rennie (Wanganui); honorary treasurer. Mr. C. B. Beattie (Wanganui); committee, Messrs. R. C. Murie, F. Lomas. E. W. Merreweather, C. S. Cooper (Wanganui). R. Syme (Hawera) and Miss L. Hughes (Taumarunui): auditor. Mr. F. Wollams (Wanganui). ___________________
