Craig, McJUnteer, I. Hendl, O’Neill and I-Iyde. In their match against Auckland B Canterbury scored another runaway victory. After the interval Miss Schluter added five more goals, and Miss Millichamp scoi'ed “three more. Miss Parsons scored one goal.- Misses Anderson, A. Black and G. Plenty of Work But Slow Times ELLERSLIE SHOWINGS TWO-YEAR-OLDS PERFORM Fairly heavy tracks were provided for training operatons ait Ellerslie this morning, this being due to steady rain a few hours earlier. Number Three grass track was at the disposal of trainers and plenty of work was car- j ried out, but there were no recordbreaking efforts. In order further to educate the two-year-olds for racing at Avondale shortly, the course prpper was open for the youngsters only. First to make an appearance when the tracks were opened was Gold Money, who went easily over six furlongs, anw was never doing better than a strong three-quarter pace at any stage. Valsier, too, was let off with a similar task. King Emerald (L. Manson) accomplished a gallop over a circuit in 1.52 4-5, carving out the last six furlongs in 1.27 1-5, five in 1.13 1-5 and the final half-mile in 58 3-5. He was travelling nico and freely when the post was reached. Palmares and Bombarder were partnered over five furlongs, never at any part of the tr.ip being separated, and completing the last four of five in 54 , 3-5. Optimistic and Currajong were practically on terms, beating Salamander easily when this trio ran home from the five-furlong post in 3.10 2-5. The Lover and Gemlight covered an easy five furlongs in 1.11 2-5, while Kawainga and Adjuster lor a furlong less registered 56 1-5. Cynthia N. was always going easily in a sprint from the half-mile peg, but was not timed. ; Thursby was never off the bit in a j six furlongs task, taking 1.33 2-5. After the breakfast interval, Catoma ran six furlongs, but only at threequarter pace. Eager Rose, who apparently did plenty of work prior to commencing again at Ellerslie, covered a short halfmile in company with Theodolite, the last three furlongs in 43 1-5. The two-year-old Manawhenua, on the inside, had a head the best of Wild Country when this pair wound up four furlongs in 55 3-5. Bennie and Lady’s Boy were asked to sprint half-a-mile, the former having the better at the end to record 56. For five furlongs Diamond Queen showed 1.10 2-5, but she was not bustled. After completing a. schooling task, Golden Wedding and Master Doon were associated over five furlongs, the former pleasing by beating the Master in creditable time —1.8 2-5. Sleepy Sol had Restaurant to assist him over six furlongs in 1.23 2-5, both showing speed by moving over the initial three in 39 2-5. Restaurant, who has done little fast work, had to be shaken up to keep alongside Sleepy Sol. Kauri Park, Automne, and Tin Whistle separately did useful tasks on the grass, having no pretensions to time. Course Proper Three youngsters, W. Kemp’s Ruling King (L. Manson), and W. Gall’s pair. Grand Spirit (J. Cammick) and Chansonetto (trainer) were first seen in action. The trio were walked round to the new mile barrier, and jumped off from almost a stand. Ruling King began very smartly, and led his companions for the four-furlong flutter. The watch showed that they lost no time on the journey, covering the last three furlongs in a tick over 39, and the filial two (easing up) in 27 4-5. Ruling King impressed with his showing, and it will take a good one to beat him in the Avondale Stakes, for of the Ellerslie two-year-olds seen out he seems the best. Grand Spirit, too. gave evidence of plenty of speed, and is the makings of a good filly. The other youngster, Chansonette, was always whipper-in, and was a disappointment. Silene, from F. Gilchrist’s stable, was also de.spatched from the sevenfurlong post, striding smoothly over three furlongs in 38 4-5, the initial two in 26 2-5. This Australian-bred youngster gives undoubted promise. The Jumpers Master Don (McNeil) gave evidence of still retaining his jumping ability when he negotiated several pony hurdles. Over similar fences, Golden Wedding (Husband) gave no cause for dissatisfaction.
On the sand, Otranto bounded away with his young pilot, and for half a mile along the back returned 52 3-5. Hyde Park and a large number of other horses also came in for their share of work on this track.
