MISSING LETTER
WOMAN CHARGED WITH DETENTION NAME NOT SUPPRESSED Charged with wilfully detaining a registered letter containing five onepound notes and a postal note for ss, Cecilia May Wilkes, alias Dowd, aged 48, was remanded at the Police Court this morning to appear at Taumarunui on Friday. Bail was allowed in one surety of £25 and self in the same amount. Mr. Rice asked for suppression of the name in the meantime and the chiefdetective said that the woman had received the letter at a country post office knowing perfectly well that it was not for her. She, had held it until she was interviewed bj' the police. Counsel: I object. My client lias a good defence. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., pointed out that requests for suppression were becoming too numerous. Accused was 48 years of age and there was no reason why her name should be suppressed.
