CHRISTCHURCH INCREASE £15,268 MORE FOR AUGUST Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The total of the Customs returns for August exceeds that of August, 1928, by £15,268, being £121,282, as against £106,014. The figures, with those £o.r August, 1928, in parentheses are:—Net Customs, £103,790 (£91,601); beer duties, £5,706 (£6,160); motor spirit tax, £9,897 (£6,017); tyre duties, £B9O (£1,564); export levies, dairy produce, £32 ( —); meat, £965 (£671). DUNEDIN RETURNS STEADY INCREASE SHOWN Press Association DUNEDIN, Sunday. The net Customs duties received in Dunedin during August amounted to £79,941, as against £67,531 for the corresponding period last year. Levies on motor spirits amounted to £5,103, compared with £1,964 in August, 1928, and beer duties totalled £16,347, compared with £13,319.
