SIX BULLS IMPORTED
VALUABLE CANADIAN ANIMALS QUARANTINE ENDS Six Highly-valuable Jersey bulls, imported to New Zealand from Canadian owners, were landed at the city this afternoon. TT'OR 60 days, they had been in quar- "*■ antine on Motuihi Island. This was necessary, under Government j regulations, as a safeguard against pos- j sible introduction of disease to the : Dominion. Mr. E. Griffiths, of New Plymouth, is ! the importer of the animals on behalf j of the Canadian breeders, Bull Bros., j Ontario. The animals are to be distributed • throughout the North Island for stud J purposes. Two will be retained in Auckland Province, one at Opotiki and ; the other in North Auckland. A third j animal is to go to Dannevirke, Hawke’s \ Bay, and the remaining three to Tara- , naki. The largest animal was bred in Jer- i sey, the Channel Islands home of the ! breed. It is an extremely well-framed > animal ° and is about three years old. | The other animals are of excellent pedigree, too. They were bred in Canada. | Government officials who handled ! the transport from Motuihi on the ferry, j Condor, said that the animals were all j in fine condition. Six other bulls from Canada are at [ present at Motuihi, waiting for quaran- j tine time to elapse. Most of the importations of stock to f New Zealand take place at this time of the year and, in the past few months, arrivals at Motuihi have been fairly regular. There are excellent facilities for the care of stock on the island. Heads of stock brought to New Zealand are chiefly used for improving herds.
