Obituary

MR. F. J. McHUGH A prominent figure in racing circles, Mr. Francis Jeremiah McHugh died suddenly yesterday at his home in Clarke Road, Onehunga, at the age of 73. Born at Parnell Mr. McHugb served his time in racing stables in Christchurch. For some years he trained horses in Nelson and 30 years ago came to Auckland as trainer to the late Mr. S. Bradley. For more than 20 years he trained successfully for Mr. Bradley, retiring about 10 years ago. He trained Wairiki, which won the Auckland Cup in 1903. Mr. McHugh is survived by his wife, one daughter and one grand-daughter. MR. G. B. DAVY FORMER CHIEF JUDGE OF LAND COURT The death of Mr. George Boutflower Davy, formerly Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, occurred at his residence, Wadestown, at the age of 94 years. He arrived in New Zealand from Devonshire in the ship Indian Empire in 1862. He was appointed warden and resident magistrate at Thames in 1869, and district land registrar at Auckland two years later. He was appointed Registrar-General of Lands in 1875, and Chief Judge of the Native Land Court in 1894. In 1863 Mr. Davy married Miss Liddell, of Auckland. Five members of the family survive him.
