WOMEN MIGRANTS’ WAYS
AUSTRALIAN SHOCKED BY DISPLAY FEW CLOTHES ON DECK Reed. 11 a.m. PERTH, Today. A business woman, wlio, in view of the personal attacks made on other critics, preferred her name to be kept from publication, describes the conditions on the voyage from Britain of the liner Orama, on which she was a passenger. The woman states that among the large number of female migrants destined for domestic service in Australia, there were about 50 whose conduct would pollute any Australasian home. They were bereft of all ideas of decency, she continued. They appeared on deck and around the cabins with almost no clothing on. Often they were found ironing their clothes clad only in trunks, while the stewards walked in and out of the cabins attending to their duties.
