Pukekohe Footballers Entertain BRIGHT LIGHTS AND FLOWERS The Pukekohe Rugby footballers maintained their high reputation as entertainers when they gave a ball in the Strand Theatre recently. Xeighbouring sub-unions were well represented. Dance music was played by the Havana Band, from Auckland and extra numbers were played by Miss I. Richardson.. Several novelty dances were held, the winners of the Monte Carlo being Miss R. Malone and Mr. Roy Fulton. Supper was served in cabaret style on tables, on which were arranged spring flowers. POPULAR THAMES TEACHER FAREWELL PRESENTATIONS Mrs. Millicent M. Baker, who has been on the teaching start of the Central School, Thames, for some years, amt is leaving to take up an appointment at the Parnell school, was honoured at several parties. She was the guest at luncheon of her colleagues, and was presented with dressing-table accessories. The headmaster. Mr. B. M. Green, and the first assistant, Mr, AV. Hammond, spoke in eulogistic terms of the line work she had accomplished among the children, and of her encouraging influence at ail times. At an- assembly of the scholars, the departing teacher was presented with a travelling rug, Miss Betty Chapman speaking for the older girls, of Mrs. Baker’s thoughtfulness and kindliness to them all. NAVY LEAGUE BRANCH DANCE A dance was given by the Devonport sub-branch of the Kavy League at its rooms on Thursday evening to the ship’s company of H.M.S. Dunedin. The Kit Ivat dance orchestra provided enjoyable music. Members of the committee present were: —Mrs. R. Clelund, president; Mrs. H. Melvin, secretary; Mrs. T. Palmer, Mrs. Stokes, Mrs. Bullimore, Mrs. Cleal, Miss Melville, Miss Johnston, Miss Tatton, Miss Jean Munn, Miss Spraggon, Miss P. Redmond, Miss Rogersori and .Miss Craven.
