HOLD SUCCESSFUL CHILD- | REN’S MASQUERADE | •: | < FOR CHURCH FUNDS Gaiety prevailed’ at the Manurewa Picture Theatre on the occasion of the children’s annual fancy dress ball, held under the auspices of the Alanurewa Anglican Church. A canopy of multi-coloured streamers was suspended over the floor, and the stage was decked with masses of greenery, intermingled with gay paper flowers. The judging of the fancy costumes was in the hands of Alesdames McCallum, T. R. Richards and Aliss Alontgomery, and the awards were as follow: CHILDREN’S SECTION Girls over 11: Best fancy costume, N. Duffy as a Russian and Valerie Burton as an Eastern Woman; most original costume, Esina Young as No AXore Strikes and Hawn Wilson as a Bat Girls from 6 to 11: Best fancy dress. Audrey Nitz as Night, and Elsie Dunnan as a Dutch Girl; most original costume, A. Hawthorn as a AVindow, and Gwen Miller as Health. Girls under 6: Best fancy costume. Ronda Hunton as Queen Elizabeth, and Marie AVrightson as a Bride; most original costume, Rona Wilcox as a Chicken, Aloira White as a Doll in a Box, and Lenore Lupton also a Doll in a Box. Boys over 11: Best fancy costume, Hick Wishart as an Indian, and Leslie R9bertson as the Hrum-Alajor; most original costume, Harold Lough as Radio, and Bazil Kenny as Join the Mustard Club. Between 6 and 11: Best fancy costume, Herbert Ayling as Boy Blue, and Billy Butterworth as a Cowboy; most original costume, Jack Kimber as a Fox, and Jack Wrightson as Bycroft’s Flour. Under 6: Ross Alaxwell as a Chef, and Desmond Aliller as a Baker. ADULTS’ SECTION Best fancy costume: Women, Aliss Jessie Harris as Holly Varden, and Aliss R. Donaldson as an Eastern Woman; men, Air. C. Norager, as a Sheik, and Air. B. Alsop as a Rajah. Most original costume: Aliss Joan de Carteret as a Alushroom, and Aliss Boscawen as a Query. Special prize: Alesdames Emptage and Wells as Darby and Joan.
