GOVERNMENT RESERVES
APPOINTMENT OF HONORARY INSPECTORS AUCKLAND’S LEAD Communications from the Auckland Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture to the Department of Lands and Survey, regarding the necessity for more inspectors for Government scenic reserves, has resulted in about 30 honorary inspectors, nominated by the Auckland council of the institute, being approved by the Minister in Charge of Scenic Preservation, the Hon. G. W. Forbes. The activities of the newly-appointed inspectors will not be confined to Government reservations in the vicinity of Auckland, but will he operative throughout the whole of New Zealand. It is expected that district councils of the New Zealand Institute In other parts of the Dominion will follow the lead of the Auckland council and seek the appointment of other honorary inspectors in their districts. The inspectors will have authority to deal only with scenic reserves, such as public reserves or domains vested in the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and will have no authority where a domain board or other local body is charge of a district. Special authority would be required from each domain board before the inspectors would have power in act in respect of the areas controlled by such boards. The appointments are as follow: Mrs. J.
