Obituary
MR. H. HARRINGTON The death is announced from Wellington of Mr. H. Harrington, aged 7H. He arrived in Christchurch in 18 iJ with his parents in the ship Samarang. and later joined the telegraph service and became assistant-superintendent in Christchurch, then superintendent in Napier, and later in Wellington. When he retired from the service he was inspector, hut was recalled to art as censor in Wellington for the greater part of the war. Since then he has been living in retirement. MR. F. L. DAVIS ; Mr. Francis L. Davis, for 37 years a resident in Auckland, died on Wednesday at his home, 6 Golf Avenue, : Otahuhu, at the age of 83. Mr. Davis left England for Australia with his parents in 1852, and the family lived at Ballarat during the gold rush days. After spending a short time in Melbourne he left for Christchurch in 1872. There, in partnership with Mr. George Tombs, the now well-known firm of YVhitcombe and Tombs was first started, under the name of Tombs and * Davis. 11l health necessitated the re- - I tirement of Mr. Davis from the firm, l He came to Auckland 37 years ago and j j for 24 years lived in Dcvonport.
