BAKEHOUSE DESTROYED
LORRY’S BACK-FIRE STARTS BLAZE OUTBREAK AT TAIHAPE f (Special to THE SUN) TAIHAPE, Wednesday. A grocery store and bakehouse at Mataroa, near Taihape, owned by Mr. H. A. Lamb, were destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. About .£SO worth of stock was saved. The stock was valued at £9OO, the shop fittings and plant at £IOO, and the bakehouse plant and even at £250. A rnotor-lorry, valued at £BSO, and insured for £ 400, was also destroyed in the fire. The lorry was the property of Mr. Lamb. The fire was . caused by the backfiring of the motor-lorry in a garage betwen the grocery shop and the storeroom. Mr. Lamb was endeavouring to start the machine when the engine back-fired and the lorry caught alight. Fanned by a strong breeze the flames spread quickly, and soon destroyed the store and bakehouse.
