“THE MAN I LOVE” “The Man I Love,” the thrilling all- i talkie at the Roxy continues to attract . record crowds to that theatre. The story of “The Man I Love” centres around Dum-Dum Brooks, a one- ; punch fighter around Los Angeles, who , falls in love with Celia Fields. The*' j decide to get married and Brooks, in spite of the protests of his manager, ] Curly Bloom, heads for New York. In New York Brooks wins a contract with D. J. McCarthy, a big fight promoter, and the admiration of Sonia Baronoff, an exotic society woman. Her lover, Carlo Vesper, is insanely jealous. During the following six months, Brooks wins 15 fights and is touted for a bout with the champion. Celia, knowing of Brooks’s affair with Sonia, is deeply hurt. At last Vesper sees his chance for revenge. He induces Brooks to drink heavily. Then Vesper precipitates a brawl in Sonia’s apartment. The next morning, Brooks learns that Celia has left him and that he has been signed to fight the champion. The night of the championship bout finds Brooks nervous. Things are going badly for him when Celia, unable to stand the suspense any longer, rises in the audience and cheers for him. Brooks wins the championship. Convinced that victory has put him beyond her forever, Celia starts for California. On the train, however. Brooks finds her and tells her that victory means nothing if she won’t share it with him. Mary Brian is charming as Celia, Richard Arlen is Brooks, and Baclanova is the tempting siren of Sonia. The Roxy’s programme also includes a number of shorter talking and singer features. TAMAKI NIGHT AT DIXIELAND The popular Dixieland Cabaret -will be the scene of a special night of dancing this evening, when "Tamaki Night” will be held. Dancing will be continued until 1 a.tn. There will be special cabaret items by the ‘•Follies” and Madame Valeska will present the Varsity Drag.
