WRESTLING ACTIVITIES

INVITATION TO ECKLUND FURTHER MATCHES PROPOSED In addition to the bout between Naranjan Singh and Maracci Gardini at the Town Hall on Monday evening, a special exhibition bout will be given by Billy Edwards, light-weight champion of Australasia, and F. Taylor, the well-known teacher of wrestling in Auckland. The New Zealaxid Wrestling Association has cabled Clarence Eeklund, who claims the light-heavy-weight championship of the world, inviting him to come across from Australia to meet Farmer Vance, Tom Aliev and Walter Johansson. As there are few light-heavy-weights in Australia at the present time it is likely that Ecklund will make the trip. No word has yet been received from John Pesek. who is going to America to wrestle for the heavy-weight championship of the world, and who has been invited to wrestle in Auckland while on his way back to the States. It is believed that he is awaiting the arrival of the letter which his manager, Mr. A 1 Haft, has sent to him. The association expects to receive a reply when he has received the letter. If Pesek can be persuaded to wrestle one contest in Auckland, and if Ecklund accepts the invitation the wrestling game in Auckland will receive a further fillip, the matches which have been staged so far having made wrestling very popular with the Auckland sporting public.
