PRICES HIGHER

N.Z. DAIRY PRODUCE IN LONDON This week's reports to Auckland merchants on the London markets for New Zealand butter and cheese indicate higher prices in the sales. Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, from a report on August *26 from its London house, Trengrouse and Nathan, Limited, advises:—Butter, 1755, market quiet but firm; cheese, white. 30s; coloured, 925; market steady. Leonard and Sons. Ltd., report having received a cablegram from London advising an advance in butter from Is 3d to Is 4Jd a lb, and s T ating further that cheese has risen to 84d a lb.

POTATOES IN CANTERBURY

PRICES FLUCTUATING Tress Association CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. There have been further variations in the potato market. At the week-end September delivery was quoted at £ 9 7s 6d. The figure advanced to £lO ss, but today it is back to £lO. Prompt delivery are worth £9 7s 6d. The Waipiata sailed for Wellington with a cargo of 9.100 sacks from all Southern ports, the Lyttelton proportion being 2,300. Space was unavailable for about 1,500 sacks, but these will be shipped by the Kawatiri and Wingatui. which will load this week. It is expected that these two vessels will take about 8,000 sacks from Southern ports. Potatoes on these boats have been sold at £ 9 7s 6d. There is no change to report in other classes of produce.

MINING NEWS HAURAKI CONSOLIDATED. The . mine manager reports: Stoping on the • Stockwood reef at the 4Cfoft level is in ! progress over a length of 200 ft; the 1 ventilation is good and fair headway is 1 being made with the stopes. All the ■ quartz broken is being sent to the battery which is running two shifts. Over 1 a length of 100 ft blotches of strong gold are seen in the main portion of the reef and pieces of specimen stone selected 1 from the pug formation on the hangingwall. The seaward face is now 72ft from the deviation; both the reef and the I country rock are most promising for gold. The face is 20ft beyond the estimated junction with the Green Harp reef. It is probable that the Green Hair reef does nor carry through the broken ground in the hanging-wall, or that there is a hanging-wall portion to the reef. This will be proved during the week.
