CLAIM IN ESTUARY

NEW THAMES GOLD HOPE (Special to THE SUN) THAMES, Today. Mr. William White has been granted permission in the Warden’s Court to mine a gold claim at the mouth of historic Shotover Creek, where gold was first found 62 years ago. Mr. White holds the view that years of erosion in the creek must have worn rich gold quartz away. He considers that this had been swept to the sea and had been covered with silt by tidal action. The claim applicant expects to have to sink a considerable distance to find heavy yields. The claim is five acres in extent and work will be begun in a week or so.
