OLD DOCK SITE

POSITION OF WATERFRONT BUILDINGS TOWN PLANNING ASPECT Views of the Town Planning Association on the proposal by the Harbour Board to erect a new waterside workers’ building were expressed at the association’s meeting last evening. The subject was raised in relation to the lay-out of the old dock site, which is now being used as an open-air parking station. Mr. T. Bloodworth considered that the watersiders’ building should be erected on the north side of Quay Street, almost opposite Breakwater Road. He stated tjiat the Harbour Board would ask fife conference of the City Council, Transport Board and Town Planning Association on Tuesday next if the setting back of the building 15ft. from the Quay Street alignment so that the street could be widened to meet possible traffic requirements was favoured. The completion of the waterfront road would add considerably to the importance of Quay Street and its traffic, he said. A committee of three, including Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, was appointed to attend the conference on behalf of the Town Planning Association.
