MARBLE RIDGE AGAIN
McDonald’s splendid JUDGMENT SENSATIONAL RACE IN SYDNEY The Harold Park Handicap at the meeting of the New South Wales Trotting Club recently proved a sensational race. Beginning the second lap four horses fell, and after being hampered by the accident the favourite. Marble Ridge, finished in spectacular fashion to win by a neck. It is remarkable that no serious injuries were received in the accident. Birth•lay (J. Siraonds) was first to fall, and in succession Splash (W. S. Mazoudier). Towrang Boy (E. Wilson), and Childe Era (H. Chant) came down. All Steel, who was leading at the time, continued unhampered. but Marble Ridge and Cleve Lynn had to be ?ased. and were fortunate to avoid the scrambling horses. Looked a Certainty A* the race proceeded it locked beyond doubt that All Steel would win. E. L. McDonald, who drove Marble Ridge, seemed content to allow the leader to maintain his advantage for the next lap. but then began to make up ground. How well he judged the pace, the amount All Steel had in reserve for the finish, and the capabilities of his own horse were amply demonstrated in the last quarter of a mile, for although, with about a furlong to be covered, it looked odds on All Steel. Marble Ridge finished like the champion he is to win by a neck. Marble Ridge has now won 23 races, and to all appearances seems likely to win as many more, for he is a comparatively young horse at six years, and enjoys a remarkably good handicap, since judicious placing has kept his record down to a 2m 17s basis. Mountain Dell (Blue Mountain King—Whispering Dell) is one of the best improvers in commission in the Auckland Province, and as she possesses stamina as well as speed, the black mare will keep the opposition moving in the Seddonville Handicap on Saturday, although she is conceding start to some other hefty ones of the improving class. When the Blue Mountain King filly won at Alexandra Park in June, she came at the right end and finished up her task like a real good one. There • a every promise of a big future before this young pacer. Likes Large Track Explosion (Nelson Bingen—Ena Bell) is in fin© form nnd A. J. Julian has the long-striding chestnut working in approved style. If be reproduces his track displays on race day. Explosion should be in the limelight. So far. however, he has shown a tendency to become unbalanced in bis contests and it looks as if the one time Corrigan representative requires a bigger track than that at Epsom to his best form. As a three-yeax-°*d Explosion had a fine record, which he has not maintained, but there is every reason to believe he will yet make amends. 1929 TROTTING FIXTURES Auckland T.C. (Special).—Aug. 31.
