HAWERA TROTTING CLUB
PAST SEASON’S OPERATIONS hint of stakes reduction Although the Hawera Trotting Club is only showing a small profit on the season’s operations, the fixture held last Easter was one of the most successful recorded, but like many other similar organisations the stakes offered are on the generous side. Mention of this fact is made by the president, Mr. B. McCarthy, in the report which will be submitted to members at the annual general meeting on August 30, which states:—“The net profit is again only a nominal sum, £l4B having been carried forward, but unless a reduction in stakes is made, or a considerable saving effected in some other items of expenditure, it is unlikely that the club will be able to do more than pay its way on trotting meetings.” It is pleasing to note, continues the report, that the meeting held last Caster was again well supported, both by horse owners and the public, the Attendance being greater, and the total - isator investments being £35,7G3, an increase of £1,543 compared with the previous year. The training facilities for horses have been considerably improved this year, and the thanks of tho club are due to the Egmont Racing Club for valued assistance in this direction. Regret is expressed at the deaths during the year of the late Mr. T. R. Exley, a former member, and one of the oldest supporters of the trotting sport in the district, and of the late Mr. H. C. Crocker, a member of the club. Nominations for the positions of office-bearers for the ensuing year, not being in excess of the vacancies, no election will be necessary, whicn can he taken as an expression of confidence in the management and general satisfaction with the conduct of the club’s affairs.
