CENTRE-POLE DANGERS

CRITICISM BY CORONER INQUEST ON MOTORIST •'lf a red band were painted around each centre-pole where there has been an accident, as was once done In Christchurch, it would bring home to the authorities what dangerous things they are." Commenting thus, the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., returned a verdict of accidental death when an inquest was held concerning Albert Edward Walker. Mr. Walker, a married man, aged 47, of Arthur Street, Ponsonby, died at the Auckland Hospital on the evening of August 10 from injuries received when his car collided with a centre-pole on College Hill. There were five people in the car and witnesses were of the opinion that the sun shining in the driver’s eyes as the car climbed toward Three lamps was responsible for the accident. The driver was quite sober and the car was travelling slowly. Mr. Walker had no children. He was a land salesman.
