HARBOUR BOARD’S DUTY
RESOLUTIONS CONCERNING BRIDGE CHAIRMAN’S STATEMENT “The paramount duty of the Auckland Harbour Board is to conserve the future development of the port. That was the reason for the resolutions passed by the board, which have been sent to the authorities, as setting out the board's views/’ This statement was made this morning by Mr. M. H. Wynyard, chairman of the board, when asked if he had any comment to make regarding the proposed committee or commission to inquire into the harbour bridge scheme. Although Mr. Wynyard will not make any public statement, the board will discuss the whole question on Tuesday in committee. He made it quite clear that if any commission is set up it must contain an expert in harbour engineering, otherwise the board will not be satisfied. It has been proposed by the Harbour Bridge Association that the following commission should be set up to inquire into all factors concerning a bridge across the harbour: —Mr. Justice Blair, as chairman, the Director of Town Planning, Mr. J. W. Mawson, Mr. Ebenezer Allan, of Buckland, as Government representative, and a technical officer of the Public Works Department.
