“STRONGEST YET”
CANTERBURY LEAGUERS TOMORROW’S MATCH “The best team that has ever left Canterbury." That is how Mr. J. Worrall, team manager of the Canterbury provincial representative Rugby League side, describes his men who are to meet the Auckland representatives in an inter-provincial clash at Carlaw Park tomorrow afternoon. The side arrived at Auckland this morning, and is staying at the Commerical Hotel. Members indulged in practice at Victoria Park this afternoon. Following is the team for tomorrow’s game: Fullback.—T. Davidson. Threequarters.—J. Stapley, E. Spillane and R. Mackie. Five-eighths.—J. Amos and J. Sanders. .Half.—A. O'Connor. Forwards.—E. Spencer. A. Green, W. Woodgate, J. C. Dobbs, W. Mayne and S. Minnard. Reserves.—Back, J. llowison; forward, W. Drury. The financial manager, Mr. F. Sheehan, commenting on the standard of League at Christchurch, states that both the standard of play and gates have increased by 50 per cent this season. The Canterbury men have already played one representative match. this season, defeating the West Coast side by 28 points to 14, at Christchurch. Members of the team will be entertained by the Auckland Rugby Football League’s Glee Club this evening, and tomorrow evening will be present at the League’s dinner. They return South again on Sunday evening.
