MAYOR’S HOUSE BURNED
FIRE AT PAHIATUA OWNER AT PLUNKET BALL Press Association PAHIATUA, Today. A seven-roomed house, owned and occupied by Mr. J. D. Wilson, Mayor of Pahiatua, with its contents, was destroyed by fire at 10 o’clock last evening. There was an insurance of £750 on the house and on the furniture of £230 in the State Office. Mr. Wilson had many valuable belongings and is a heavy loser. The residents were absent at the time at a Plunket annual ball, and the place was soon enveloped in flames. It. appeared to have originated in the kitchen. Nothing was saved owing to poor water-pressure. The crowd of spectators included many in ballroom attire.
