ELLERSLIE GALLOPS

Late Turf

DAVE SPEEDS UP IN BEST SPRINT PREPARING FOR SATURDAY Ellerslie trainers were unfortunate when it rained very heavily over night, thus preventing them from working their charges on one of the grass tracks this morning. Weather conditions, too, were decidedly bad, intermittent rainfall prevailing throughout training, which was carried out on rhe sand. One of the first to work was The Lover, who was sent over a circuit, being picked up by Palmares at tlie fivefurlong post. There was nothing between them at the end, The Lover recording 1.51 2-5 for the last mile. Bombarder sprinted. half a mile in 53 1-5, and did it nicely. Immediately after Dave impressed by completing a similar distance in 50 4-5. He began very smartly and ran his first furlong in 13, and was travelling very strongly at the post. This was the outstanding gallop of the morning. Abbot’s Delight covered six furlongs in 1.21. the first three in 41, while Catoma went a furlong further in 1.42 4-5. Zircon was not bustled to complete seven furlongs in 1.44 1-5. He is in great order and is putting plenty of dash into his exercise. Seven furlongs was the task allotted Otranto, who showed speed in the early stages, but was easing up to register 1.40, the initial three in 40 3-5. Measurer and Mon Star were partnered over five furlongs, the former pleasing by beating his companion by several lengths in 1.6 1-5. Mountain Guide and Bennie could not be separated in their sprint over half a mile in 54 4-5. Automne was sent six furlongs and was never doing his best to get over the ground in 1.23 2-5. Lady Spalpeen traversed a round, being picked up by Fair Abbey at the seven-furlong post, the pair finishing together in 1.40 4-5. A number of other horses also worked on the sand, but they were not sent against the watch.
