Athenians Wage War on Sadness

FUN AND JOLLITY BADGES AND “CHEER GERMS” ‘‘Chase that Gloom Away,” painted in glowing letters on a futuristic stage background was the slogan of the Athenians at their jolly assembly at the Operatic Society’s Hall on Saturday. TT was “President’s Night,” and Air. Wilfred Wright, in his official capacity, assisted by Mrs. Wright as hostess, celebrated it in the form of a “Cheer Germ” evening. All the guests on arrival were presented with plate-sized badges entitling them to be members of the “Funmakers’ Union,” inscribed accordingly, and the privileges included every amusing device that could be conceived by an ingenious host and hostess. Ornated hats, joy-germ fans and quaint mascots were distributed all round, and there were competitions as well to while away any spare moments, when the Kit Kat Orchestra had a respite from dispensing its lively dance music.
