Crown to Consider Elsie Walker Case
reopening inquest STATEMENT THIS WEEK No pronouncement concerning the Elsie Walker case will be made by the Attorney-General, the Hon. T. K. Sidey, until he has had the opportunity of giving the case further consideration. Mr. Sidey said it was his intention to confer with the Soliictor-General, ir.d h© hoped to make a statement early ir. the week. The Minister of Justice, the Hon. T. M. Wilford, said the Crown Law officers came under the jurisdiction of the Attorney-General. Mr. V. R. Meredith. Crown Prosecutor at Auckland, was an official of the Crown Law Department and was therefore under the Attorney-General. In view of this iie declined to comment on the case. Mr. H. O. Cooney, of Te Puke, solicitor to Mrs. Thomason, of Wanganui, whose correspondence with Mrs. C. I. Bayly, of Papamoa, was responsible for the case being revived, Is at present in Auckland.
He stated that he was engaged upon professional business not connected with the Elsie Walker case.
